Epileptic Misconceptions is a series, of photographic self portraits intended to literally display common misconceptions that many people in society have regarding epilepsy. In every aspect these images are intended to represent epilepsy’s history of criminalization and incarcerations through mimicking the aesthetic of mug shots; they are cropped and captioned to follow the aesthetic of wide screen films; lastly they are self portraits in order to represent the idea that epilepsy is a personal battle. All of which are aspects that continue to perpetuate these common misconceptions within society.
